The wreck involved several cars, two of which tore through the Converse Rubber Co. warehouse, scattering mail and debris across the embankment. Two letters from street department members addressed to Mayor Earl Cherry and City Council request higher pay. James Costello signed the first letter asking a per hour raise and paid holidays. A second letter from the remainder of the street crew asks a wage increase and 15 sick days yearly. Street Director Clifton Campbell said Costello’s letter was out of order but the others should be received for late consideration.
Judge Bayard G. Dumbauld was sworn in as a Fayette County Common Pleas Court judge in Uniontown. He was appointed by Governor George Leader to succeed the late Judge E. John Morrow.
