Alfred N. Penrose Jr. died from a shotgun wound suffered in a Arlington home tragedy. The shot occurred twelve hours after the mother Hazel Penrose, 50, had died. The father said the boy carried a gun and hunting boots up a stairway when the weapon discharged, striking him in the chest.

In Harrisburg on November 10 Deputy Coroner Frank Felder ordered paraffin tests to confirm if Lawrence Bowermaster killed his wife and himself or if the reverse occurred. The bodies were found by Bowermaster’s mother, Helen Howermaster, in their home. Bowermaster was shot in the heart. his wife lay on the floor with a bullet through her head. No motive yet established.
