Fee Charges Job Too Big For Police Commissioner
HARRISBURG AP In a letter to Police Commissioner FE Wilson Purdy Charles J Mills D Westmoreland criticizes Purdy saying the job is too large for him and cites his appointment of out of state director of the state police laboratory Klosterman of St Louis as evidence. Mills claims Purdy failed to train a local successor and that other out of state appointments have followed a pattern. Purdy defends the choices noting only two out of over two years involved out of state appointees and that specialists are hired when suitable local candidates are unavailable. Klosterman is set to begin within a month.

Girl 16 Found After Boyfriend Arrested in County
Mary Jane Podovich, 16, of Guys Mills, missing since September 27, was located by her father in Republic, Fayette County, after running away with Frank Graheck Jr. Trooper Henry Miller said Graheck was arrested in Uniontown on burglary and larceny charges. Mary Jane, a Townville High School tenth grader, will be returned home.

A West Chester barber, Richard F. Draper Jr., received a state order to cut the hair of Negroes seeking service. The State Human Relations Commission ruled he had committed unlawful discriminatory practices under the act after Carl A. Brown reported he refused service on July 17 because of race. Draper claimed he lacked training and proper tools to cut a Black customer’s hair.
