Relief rolls in Pennsylvania shrink in October
Direct relief rolls averaged 125000 fewer in October than September, with total recipients 1,465,762 for the week ending October 26. WPA absorbed 100947 cases, 15220 freed from state relief, and 9812 new openings. Luzerne County led reductions with 2072, while Allegheny Philadelphia Lackawanna and Schuylkill also declined.

Buster Bell a 45 year old negro was forcibly taken from officers and shot to death by the husband and three mothers in law of Mrs Luther.Dotson a 25 year old woman accused of striking and insulting the negro. The four men surrendered peacefully to Sheriff Hutton Dickson County Tennessee.
