The blast damaged two houses and 100+ homes, uprooted trees, and followed a week of bombings that included bank and police station explosions. Police say the suspect may have had accomplices and had a prior arrest record.
United Press reports a pyromaniac is sought as a Harlem fire killed a mother Marguerite Di Donato, 39, and her five children ages 7 to 14. Police say 20 other fires in two months suggest incendiary activity in a dense tenement area. Louis Di Donato, father, was found dazed in the street after surviving.
New York on November 4 memory of Will Rogers revived as committees in 200 cities launch a three week drive to raise funds for a memorial to the Oklahoma humorist. Rogers would have been 56 today. No door to door solicitation. More than 19 000 banks named as depositories will receive contributions or they may be sent to headquarters at 070 Lexington Avenue.
