Memorial Day Observance Planned in Corry
Memorial Day ceremonies will be held at the State Armory with a morning parade, then veterans from Post 70 will place flowers at Corry soldiers’ graves. The program includes speeches by W Pitt Gifford, prayers, a roll of honor, music, and a cemetery deployment with volleys and taps.

Empress of Ireland Sinks After Collision in St Lawrence
The Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Ireland was rammed by the Norwegian coal Storstadt in dense fog on the St Lawrence River and sank 19 minutes after impact. Rescue efforts saved hundreds but at least eleven hundred lives were lost, including a Salvation Army party en route to a gathering. Commander Kendall survived, and noted passengers included Sir Henry Sunton-Kerr and Lawrenes Irving.

Corry Veterans Who Passed Away During the Year
Local Grand Army men and flying veterans from Corry are dwindleing. Four of the veterans counted in the Journal A T L edition last year have died since, including J B Wheeler who served in 16th Pa Cavalry and Joseph A Jackson of Post 70. Memorial Day notes reflect the shrinking veteran roster.

Becker Is Sentenced To Die In Sing Sing
Charles Hecker was sentenced to death by Justice Seabury in New York for the second time this week for the murder of Herman Rosenthal. The execution is set for a date in July at Sing Sing. Becker’s second appeal is unlikely to delay the sentence significantly.

Corry youth draws Giants pitching praise in Erie tryout
Carmen Hill, a Corry boy and High School marvel, pitched batting practice for the New York Giants. Mike Donlin and Larry McLean praised his twisters as a strong all around set. Reports say he holds a scholastic strikeout record with twenty four in nine innings.
