Diplomas were awarded to Leora Stranahan Pauline Crosby Ruth Stranahan Murah Drought Doris Shreve and others with special diplomas for vocational track. The salutatorian was Thelma Alsdorts and valedictorian Pauline Crosby. The event drew many relatives and friends and a senior banquet followed at the Spart Hotel.
United Press reports subway traffic in Harrisburg is halted by floods. Water threatens the Pennsylvania railroad tracks near Rockville and the William Penn Parkway. The Susquehanna River rises, with water levels increasing rapidly as officials monitor conditions and issue warnings. Ralph Hosmer of the State Department of Forests and Waters notes river levels rising, while authorities describe the flood as reaching an early stage with rapid flow.
A massive blaze in the Hanford area leveled grain fields and damaged farm equipment as winds fanned flames across 87 miles and 1 1/2 miles wide. One worker, Marty Solasio, 31, of Ruston Land Co., died in the early morning fire. Tonight a school musical will be presented by pupils from the Maisie department at St Edwards School. Rev Tracy Teis of St Louis will attend and assist. The concert, postponed from last series due to a death, is anticipated to draw many parents and students.
