Johnson outlines broad tax repeal plan for consumer prices

President Johnson proposes sweeping tax relief across retail and manufacturing levies with midyear and middecade cuts. A 5 percent permanent rate on passenger cars is kept, while admission taxes and select auto parts taxes are repealed. Local telephone taxes would drop to 3 percent. The plan targets handbags, luggage, radios, TVs, cameras, and many appliances for repeal by midyear and July 1 1967 for others.
