Ago Roberts Patt, a 24 year old Dun kink youth and persistent deserter from Army training camps, was sentenced to eight years in a Federal penitentiary after capture following another escape. He had hidden out in Corry Hospital for weeks earlier, and relatives later brought Taft to the hospital with a burn from an oil lantern accident while doing farm work.
The sorting and classification of clothing from the United National Clothing Collection in this city is complete. Charles Stewart and Mrs William Houshton reported that most material is categorized, with only about five percent rejected for retentive specifications. Rejected items go to the Salvation Army for repair or disposal. Additional garments from Red Cross were already repaired and added to the stock at the State Armory. A group of men has packed the first truckload for Erie, with further work planned this weekend. The Hemikons firm will move Corry material on daily runs. M W Clement president of the Pennsylvania Railroad with J F Deasy and W B Trelem and other officials conducted a personal inspection trip along the Erie and Renovo division. The visit followed weeks of wrecks and line troubles. The party passed Corry in the afternoon en route to Erie arriving at 4 15. After conferences with division officials they left at 8 30 for Philadelphia and crossed Corry again about 9 20 last night.

Washington May 4 President Truman announced the selection of Robert H Jackson as chief prosecutor to bring to military justice the arch war crimes of Hitler and Mussolini. The president noted that others, including major war criminals and their agents, remain to be tried, with plans for international tribunals if needed.
Frank Bromley of this city was indicted by a Erie grand jury for the murder of Navy Petty Officer Loyd Wilkinson of North East on Good Friday night 1942. Witnesses including Wilkinson’s sweetheart Stetson and ex-con Jay Gordon Wilson testified, with police and officials credited for building the case.
The body of a middle aged man found slain near St. Augustine is identified by officials as Charles H Montgomery, a Pennsylvania lumberman missing since April 21. Positive identification came through R N Haines Grove City Pa. Montgomery’s supply company executive. Montreal is the son of the missing man who last spoke to his wife April 20 at Fort Littleville.
May 3 report says Hamburg, Germany’s second largest port, surrendered to the British Second Army after declaring the city open. Doenitz’s Prague hospital city claim, northern pockets collapsing, and Italy and Austria nearing total capitulation mark the collapse of Nazi resistance. Berlin reportedly fell to Allied forces after intense fighting, while remaining German cities shrink to a few strongholds as forces converge around Livorno and the Isonzo region.
On Okinawa southern front, U S Seventh Division spearheads advance 1400 yards into Japanese defenses near Gaja Hill by Yonabaru town. Fresh American divisions to relay join the assault as Nimitz reports major progress across the four mile front and battles continue with tanks and flamethrowers supporting the attack.
