Wine makers deride 3.2% beer as insipid slop in California
Fresno March 29 Union Press Stam reports central California winery owners oppose 3.2 percent alcohol wine labeling. W. Harkleroad of A. Mattel winery says 3.2% wine would be junk, residue from distillery would yield higher alcohol, while K. Arakelian of Madera argues naturally fermented wines could be sold to beverage makers who would dilute alcohol further. They note California wines typically run 10 to 12 percent dry and up to 20 percent sweet, vintage wines fortified to prevent vinegar.
