Lieutenant Governor Kennedy announced the race will be held April 9. Speaker Wilson G Larig confirmed both vacancies will be filled at the same time as district voters select a senator.
Chester Nowik a 30 year old hold up man died in Chicago after four electric shocks were applied at one minute intervals as he had boasted he would be the toughest man who ever went to jail. Sheriff John Toman said doctors pronounced him dead after the electrocution.
In Towanda Mary and staff at the dairy company halted further milk deliveries today after escalating strike violence. A police officer was reportedly tired during clashes as drivers and workers confronted management during the four day dispute.
Barton Kauffman county relief administrator announced immediate steps to ferret out and prosecute all persons defrauding relief programs. A statewide cleanup is planned with expected arrests as cases are investigated for fraud and improper aid. Local relief cases are scheduled for investigation as part of the drive.
A heavy dust curtain 4000 to 8000 feet high blankets Pittsburgh suburbs reducing visibility and darkening the sun. Cory Hatchery will distribute 20000 young brook trout from the Corry Hatchery for stocking streams in Erie Warren Crawford Mercer and Venango counties. The trout will be seven to nine inches long and all are legal to catch after the six inch minimum. More fish will be available later but 20000 are released now.
About 150 students at G A R High School joined a sympathy strike in Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania protesting the jailing of 29 mine union officers and members held in contempt of court. Dissension between United Mine Workers of America and United Anthracite Miners of Pennsylvania surfaced in schools as hundreds of younger students refused to attend class.

Washington March 21 Rep Sam D McReynolds a Tenn Democrat offered a compromise bill to cut the cost of immediate veteran bonus payment from two billion to one billion dollars as a final effort to halt the surge toward passage of a congested measure. He said the plan had not been discussed with the administration but is an administration spokesman.
Harrisburg March 21 Governor Earle appointed three members to the state board of game commissioners for six year terms. Rossel Leffler McKeesport succeed Dr Sammel H Williams Pittsburgh A W Lee Jr Clearfield succeed Richard J Reitz Brookville Robert Lamberton Franklin succeed A Hunter Willis Erie Williams resigned and two members were removed. The nominations go to the state senate for confirmation March 6. The positions pay no salary.
Edwin Turner of Mainstreet stays in Bradford hospital in dangerous condition after an automobile crash last week. He suffered a broken nose and a blood clot near the fracture, with doctors fearing movement toward the brain. Driver C. M. Hengst of West Smith Street is confined at home but reported in somewhat better condition.
State Department officials studied a report demanded by Ray Atherton during his London visit. The British foreign minister discussed the Whiro penn nit rtm with Allied envoys, marking the first official U S receipt of the situation's assessment.

Seven engineers and contractors were indicted in federal court for conspiring to defraud the government on a $4.853 million Texas irrigation project. Named are Col. Charles Kielberg and Harry W. Cole among others, linked to the Willacy County water project using Redwood pipe. The case cites PWA involvement and potential connections to Hammond Lumber and related firms.

A lightning bolt hit the Edward St Pierre residence on East Columbus Avenue during a morning storm. The strike caused significant damage to the home and cut electricity for the family, while also damaging exterior wiring and phone lines. A yard area suffered a near nine foot burn and a deep trench of about eighteen inches was reported. The occupants escaped injury.
