Lincoln, Vincent and Andrews Posts Formed in Civil War Era
The Grand Army of the Republic Post 70 organized on July 15 with about forty members. Names proposed for the post included Lincoln Post, McPherson Post, and Vincent Post, before finally adopting Andrews as the official name in 1860. The post honors Andrews, a Kentuckian who led a squad during cavalry operations and a major Civil War figure. Memorial Day observances and post meetings followed, with a long list of past commanders and a current membership around sixty. The article also traces the Corry, Pennsylvania unit history from its Zouave uniforms to the Vincent Ganthet and subsequent reorganizations into the 17th and then 16th regiments, noting key officers and survivors.
