The accident occurred near a railroad era crossing and was investigated by local authorities.
Officer L J Kelly identified one of the youths behind vandalism on North Center Street and City Park. Two boys admitted stealing plastering material from Bennett property and tossing it across the park before smearing the monument. they will face Chief Flanigan and likely juvenile court. Pred Barnes moved to cleanup the mess and remove smeared material from the monument.

War Finance Committee urges families to buy at least one $25 E bond per member before July 16 as Corry moves to meet a $560,000 quota. Large corporate purchases push Seventh Loan totals toward the goal with Avia Supply Corp, Corry Jamestown Mfg, Montgomery Ward, Woolworth, and Pennsylvania Electric contributing significant sums. The public is asked for a final push in the campaign’s last period.
CALCUTTA June 21 British 7th Army has occupied Pauldaung 22 miles east of Frome. Air command fighters started fires south of the village believed to hold Japanese forces. Heavy bombers dropped large numbers of bombs on enemy troops south of Nakpalin near the Pegu Martaban railway. BRUSSELS June 21 Paul Van Zeeland seen as likely to form new government but parties hostile to monarchy may block success. WASHINGTON June 21 Deputy Price Administrator James Brownell hears protests from mite operators and mining unions pressing for coal price ceiling increases amid labor unrest in western Pennsylvania.
The Red Court convicted twelve of sixteen Polish leaders amid Warsaw uprising fallout. Maj. Bronislaw Oleulewicz, commander of the underground Home Army, received the heaviest sentence of ten years. Other defendants included Jar Jankowski, deputy prime minister in exile, and several noted Polish figures. Sentences will take effect after the May arrest period. details remain contested and unclear in the reporting.
In June 1944 15 American airmen were killed when their fortress aircraft crashed near a German target during a mercy or military flight. The Army identified the crew including Lt. John F. Williams from St Marys Pennsylvania as co pilot along with SerLt Murlo J Pill genur from Pa. Passengers included Pvt Warren Ay Billet of Wrightsville Pa and Sgt Mathew Zinkovich of Titusville Pa.
A rabid dog rampage strikes a local district injuring a boy and a baby, with multiple dogs attacked by the same animal. The three year old Donald Woodin is treated at Live hospital for a severely bitten arm as Dr. Kibler oversees care and serum. War Department letter to Mrs Halen Lungphe confirms Lieut Langeler was among 1775 American prisoners aboard a Japanese transport torpedoed on October 24 1944 near the Philippines. The sinking killed most aboard with ten survivors and Langeler’s status listed as killed in action.
Washington June 21 Senate War Mobilization Subcommittee chair Kilgore disclosed secret German documents outlining how Nazis planned a third world conquest and sought to hide in strategic industries. He said hearings will review the economic base for Nazi aggression, citing a Strasbourg meeting of German industrialists.
