Mrs W Carl Rufus 65 known as the Flying Grandma and her friend Mrs Louells Osterlin Gillen 56 both from Ann Arbor Mich were seriously injured when a small plane struck a tree branch during takeoff near Hickory Pa last night. Mrs Rufus-Wife of UM astronomy professor author of Flying Grandma had a 7000 mile solo flight in 1940 with both arms and legs broken and was listed in serious condition. Mrs Gillen’s condition was reported poor.
