June 18 a forge barn on the George Fuller farm near Watts Flats was struck by lightning during a severe electrical storm and burned to the ground. hay, farming tools, and a calf were lost. The fire caused about a thousand dollars in damage. the storm also damaged fruit trees and hay.
Yesterday morning at Kane Y M C A burglars forced entry by breaking a rear window mesh screen and ransacked the secretary and assistants offices. They took three steel cash boxes containing $6 in currency and 48.59 in silver, and scattered numerous checks across the floor.
Franklin Va June 18 The Board of Pardons at Harrisbore approved clemency for Lowry Hofman and F G Dylle, Venunko county prisoners in the western penitentiary. Hofman, brother of the notorious Bin Hofman, was convicted of felonious arson on January 22 1912 and sentenced to not more than twelve years. Lyte pleaded not guilty to embezzlement in September 1918 and was sentenced to not less than one year and not more than two years. It is unclear when they will be released. likely at the end of their minimum terms, with Hofman possibly facing longer terms due to prior offenses.
The State Board of Pardons yesterday granted parole to Phoebe Ann Wright of Corry who was convicted of manslaughter in the Frank Lynch shooting case, and to Delmar J Young, convicted of second degree murder for the 1909 death of his mother in Erie. Both releases followed board action and prior imprisonment terms.
A Meadville division railroa d employee group arrived by regular train at 12 15 PM in Franklin for an Agents Association meeting. M C Flower met them, chauffeured tours proceeded to the Park Hotel for luncheon, followed by a business session until 4 23 PM before returning to Meadville.
Police have no clue in the Titusville burglary and hair theft at Miss Margaret V. Graham’s Maller Street residence. The thief entered through an open window, stole valuable jewelry, and cut the girl’s hair with shears, raising suspicions of inside involvement though family members are ruled out.
A major blaze in Chandlers Valley, Warren County, destroyed a lumber yard and nearby structures. The Warren Fire Department battled the flames until about 2 p.m. Two outbuildings and a shop owned by W Dupree burned, with an automobile and vast quantities of rough and dressed lumber lost. Total estimated loss around 5000 dollars.
In Oil City this morning Alderman McCready's court heard Stave Bollowitch charged with selling Aquor liquor without license at a Miller Farm location. Witnesses Peter Bobinga and Mike Laman testified to beer and whisky sales. bail set at 500 dollars with expectations of securing it.
