Congress rebuffed Nixon Indochina pullout deadlines as House rejected June 1 April 30 and Dec 31 war halt measures. In the same day, three local crashes injuring a Tionesta youth caused over $2,600 in damages, including a rollover that pinned John Rightmover, 15, under a car. Damages to the vehicle reached about $1,000 with no other injuries. The Senate rejected a Hatfield McGovern amendment to cut funds for war, while the House approved a $21.1 billion weapons bill 331 to 58, with grim prospects for rapid troop withdrawal.

County agency plan excludes Corry and Union City hospitals

Erie hospital directors pressed for a county hospital authority to access municipal bonding at about three percent lower rates. Corry Memorial and Union City Memorial hospitals reported they were not invited to the discussions with Erie County commissioners. Trustees suggested giving the authority bonding power, but commissioners doubted the approach and asked the county solicitor for a legal opinion as the plan faces scrutiny and past attempts were derided as a fiasco.

Spartans contest alleged voting irregularities in Harrisburg

Sparta Concerned Citizens leaders led by J Russell Young protest irregularities in the Harrisburg House voting on an amendment to allow mergers to go to referendum. They traveled to hear Sen. Budd Dwyer’s plan to delay merger deadlines, with the current cutoff set for July 1. About 100 opposed votes were noted amid the dispute.

He spent his Army pay on drugs, began with marijuana, then heroin, and after six weeks of treatment at Ft. Bragg’s center he was freed from withdrawal with methadone.
