Times Contests Court Bid Over Pentagon Vietnam Papers

The New York Times faces a U S District Court hearing to resist government demands to inspect and recover Pentagon documents underlying its Vietnam War series. Reporter names Ellsberg as source of Pentagon leak to Times

Former New York Times reporter Sidney Zion said on WMCA that Daniel Ellsberg, former Defense Department employee and MIT research associate, supplied the Pentagon study excerpts to the Times. Zion claimed the leak was not from a household name and offered no proof of his sources.

A Senate investigator heard from Robert F Kudak that a national mail theft ring stole about 100 million in valuables by pilfering mail pouches containing securities, diamonds, travelers checks, furs and cash. Kudak, 29, said he read some documents but did not sell them, burning or discarding many.
