Washington July 25 administration leaders signal willingness to compromise on a one year extension for selectees guards and reserves to win congressional support for the existing statute. Senators Hill Austin and Gurney discussed a possible June 20 1943 deadline while stressing emergency wartime needs and defense plant seizure authority.
Reports from Kray exam show both girls escaped serious back injuries after the North East accident. Miss Helen Jones suffered a broken nose and jaw injuries with a head bruise, while Miss Marie Joseph sustained bruises and possible chest injuries but is recovering. Both are in Hamole hospital with Jones expected to remain longer.

About forty workers are busy as footings go in for multiple residential buildings at the North Corry project. Workers clear sites, grade land, and prepare the maintenance house on the northwest corner while others lay foundations for the homes facing central court. J P Snyder Construction Company of Buffalo leads the effort with plan to complete twenty three structures by two four family units.
Italian planes sank three more British convoy ships in the Mediterranean in renewed attacks yesterday, after sinking five ships the day before. The navy reported the toll includes a 10,000 ton steamer, a 12,900 ton steamer, and a 15,000 ton tanker sunk by air torpedoes.
Corry reported 90 degree heat again with forecasts of afternoon showers failing to arrive. The weatherman predicted showers for Saturday but early today there was little sign of a break in the oppressive heat.
The U S Congress Rivers and Harbors Committee will tour Erie Saturday to inspect harbor facilities as part of the Great Lakes St Lawrence River waterway project. City officials said Chamber of Commerce and Manufacturers Association representatives will join the inspection and present objections to the proposed waterway.
