PUC Seeks Safety Advice on RR Crossings
Harrisburg AP The Public Utilities Commission asked for information to improve railroad crossing safety after an 11 percent rise in grade crossing accidents. The 1970 total reached 817 from 285 in 1969 with many incidents at automatic signal, gate, and flagman crossings. Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, the State DOT and all railroads must respond within 45 days. The commission will study better warning systems that are practical to install with minimal disruption and cost.

Suspect Held For Barbershop Slayings
Youngstown Ohio AP Robert Williams 21 of Poland ordered held for grand jury action in connection with the July 3 slayings of a man and an 11 year old boy at a Poland barbershop. The two victims were shot between the eyes at close range.

Corry Youth Killed in Route 97 Crash
An 18 year old Corry youth, Jerry Krizo, was killed and 16 year old Phillip Crouch of North East was seriously injured in a two vehicle crash on Route 97 near Union City at 12 10 p m yesterday. Krizo died at 2 55 a m at St Vincent Erie Hospital after being taken by Union City Ambulance Service. Crouch is in fair condition at Hamet Hospital Erie. Investigators said Krizo traveling south hit a northbound car driven by Crouch after Krizo veered to avoid a stopped truck. Both cars were a total loss.

Wheelchair Victims Drown As Fishing Boat Capsizes
Three disabled war veterans in wheelchairs drowned when a pontoon boat from the Soldiers Home in Marshalltown capsized during a fishing outing on Upper Pine Lake in central Iowa. AP service for The Journal resumes today after a six day outage caused by a Bell Telephone strike. The Journal, Meadville Tribune, Titusville Herald, Erie Times, and WICU-TV reported reduced AP transmission with five hours yesterday instead of the usual thirteen. FBI to probe police murders on request
