Camp slayings puzzle Nevada County authorities look for motive

Authorities searched the Sierra foothills for a suspect and motive after a camp at a Bear River riverbank near Nevada City saw two killed and three wounded. Sheriff Brown said he and relatives of the victims are baffled as the attacker, described as a maniacal attacker wielding a heavy sharp weapon, slipped in around 11 pm. Witnesses recalled a grinning aggressor who threatened a couple at their tent and then attacked others. Satan’s pistol was missing after the assault and the killer fled.

CAIDC Meets In Pittsburgh On Housing

CAIDC officials led by president C. Conrad Monroe meet in Pittsburgh with Federal Housing Authority representatives to review a proposed 50 unit housing project on the south side and discuss state federal financing rules. Navy Grants One-Time Exemption for First Drug Offense

Secretary of the Navy John H. Chafee ordered a one-time exemption from punishment for first drug use if the sailor or Marine cooperates with rehabilitation. Meadville Man Robbed of $7 in Home Invasion

Paul McKay, 83, was sitting in his Meadville living room about 9 20 p m last night when an intruder entered through the back door and demanded cash. McKay handed over seven dollars and was treated at City Hospital. injuries were not disclosed.

Local Cyclist, Girl Injured In Multiple Crashes

State Police under Corry substation investigate a bike car collision on Spring Creek road sending Gerry White 16 to Corry Memorial Hospital with shoulder and foot injuries and lacerations. A car driven by Ann Kinney failed to avoid him as he swerved onto its path. White was returning from a farm job on Route 426. In a separate Erie area crash Holly O H are 14 treated and released for contusions after a collision on Station road near Behrend Campus. John Pitcavage 22 was uninjured, car damages about 600 dollars. In Bloomfield Township a two car collision caused 900 dollars damage at rural road intersection with poor visibility. Alleged Kayak Thieves Nabbed by State Trooper

State Trooper Clare Stile on the way home yesterday arrested Harley AL Hall of 920 East Sixth Street and two juveniles for stealing two kayaks from Newland's amusement park at Canadohta. The kayaks valued at 975 were repainted before use. Hall faces a hearing at a later date while the juveniles remain in parental custody.

Don Rickles Out For 6 8 Weeks After Achilles Surgery

Hollywood AP reports comedian Don Rickles will be sidelined for six to eight weeks while recovering from surgery to repair a torn right achilles tendon. He is in Mt Sinai Hospital in good condition after the operation four days after the tennis accident. hospital stay length is undetermined.

Raymond UAW Members In UK Contract Ratified

Raymond UAW members at the Raymond Division of Associated Spring Corp voted 197 to 32 for a new three year labor pact with 15 to 7 in skilled trades. The agreement, reached with federal mediator Pat Mingarelli, provides wage steps 32 to 46 cents first year with increases in years two and three, plus cost of living adjustments, enhanced health and pension benefits, and one extra holiday.
