County borrows to fund MH MR unit in budget crisis

Erie County commissioners, in a three week gap, vote to borrow up to 1 125 000 to back the Mental Health Mental Retardation program amid a state budget impasse. The move backs Counselling Services Center which is without operating funds as MHMR plans to contract services and fund about 90 percent. The center needs 7 700 for July payroll and expenses while state officials delay checks until the legislature acts and the governor signs. Interest will be paid from MECMA monies.
