State Aides At Odds On Welfare Budget Figures
At a monthly Public Welfare meeting, Mel Horting refused to disclose proposed budget figures, claiming it was administration business, while Emory Bacon urged transparency. The dispute centers on the board’s authority under law, linked to a December resolution allowing case workers to influence aid cuts, with religious and political leaders pressing for clarity. The board voted to defer action on the resolution and sought a clearer definition of its authority.
