Astinton Ortiz, 25, held on a kidnapping charge after abducting an infant boy and later surrendering to police. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment she described as gall bladder trouble. Ortiz confessed to abducting Jub Tavares last Thursday when he was 24 days old. The infant's mother, Jose Tavares, 31, said she cannot forgive the abductor and Ortiz claimed she wanted a replacement infant after a miscarriage.

The Dodd family sold Dodd's Dress Shop in the TOOF building on North Center Street. The sale was made by Mr and Mrs Leslie Dodd and Mr and Mrs Merle Dodd who have owned the store four years. New owners Evans Dress Shop take over February 2 with Gertrude White and Leo Mulderick as employees. Evans Yarn Shop and Evans Beauty Salon are connected with the deal.
Centerville youths say Larry Bradley, a six year old driver, escaped injury yesterday afternoon when his eastbound auto on Route 4 six miles west of Corry slid on slush. The vehicle rolled over after dipping onto a steep bank. Bradley walked away unhurt. police reported about 300 dollars in damage.
Firemen estimated the Matthew Hillman grocery store in Sugar Grove damaged at 9500 dollars after a blaze around 4 30 this morning broke out near a meat slicing machine in the rear. Sugar Grove firemen and others from Bast Youngsville aided in extinguishing fumes before they spread, the store adjacent to the Sugar Grove bank in Warren County.
Cory State Police investigated an injury incident involving six year old Herbert Morton, son of Mr and Mrs Herbert Morton Sr, struck by a GLP truck as he darted into its path while returning from school. Driver Arthur McChesney of Corry RD 9 remained at the scene and the boy was taken to Corry Memorial Hospital for treatment of abrasions to the right.
In Havana the third war crimes trial of Batista officers was postponed for Marti birthday celebrations and to await defense evidence. Ex-Maj Jesus Sosa Blanco and ex-Capt Pedro Morejon face death sentences and appeals, while arrests and seizures over a suspected plot against the new regime were reported.
A 22 year old Columbus man, Earl L. Slayton, is in fair condition at Jamestown General Hospital after a pickup rolled over on the Sugar Grove-Lottsville road. Slayton suffered a fractured pelvis, dislocated hip, and body contusions. Warren State Police say he was crowded toward the roadside by an oncoming truck, sending his vehicle off the berm and into a rollover. The crash remains under investigation with limited details available.
