The Supreme Court rejected James Hoffa's third appeal today, leaving him to face up to five more years in federal prison for pension fund loan fraud. Hoffa, once a powerful Teamsters leader, was serving eight years for jury tampering and had sought to overturn his Chicago conviction on several constitutional grounds. The denial came on a 7 to 0 vote without a comment, after prior rulings directing lower courts to review alleged illegal eavesdropping. Hoffa was jailed in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, in March 1967, with parole chances denied in 1969.

Surviving wife Genevieve Loveland a son James R two grandchildren and a sister. Elnora Jones 78 of 46 Atlantic Street Union City died yesterday. She attended First Baptist Church and worked at Standard Furniture Co. Surviving daughters Marion Jordan and Faye Wood a sister and a brother and four grandchildren.
UN envoy Gunnar V. Jarring planned talks with Egypt and Jordan to sound them out on Israel s proposals. He returned from Jerusalem where he met Prime Minister Golda Meir and Foreign Minister Abba Eban. He called talks with Israelis useful and said a successful continuation awaits in New York. Israel wants secure borders and a signed peace treaty to end 22 years of conflict.
The Supreme Court agreed to hear a government appeal challenging a 1968 appeals court ruling that customs inspectors must have real suspicion supported by objective facts before ordering a strip search of travelers crossing into the United States. The case centers on Sandra Johnson, a 26 year old Los Angeles dry cleaner, found with heroin undergarments during a border crossing.
