County Talks Break Off In Negotiation

Erie County and the Pennsylvania Social Services Union ended talks on a new pact for 40 Children’s Services employees after the union pressed for fact finding. Negotiator Richard Adams warned the stoppage could cost the county about $1,000 weekly in reduced state reimbursements, while James Casey disputed the figure. Adams argued a 37 hour to 35 hour shift would trigger a $51,000 annual shortfall in state funding, and workers were willing to add hours to save the county money. The dispute centers on county offers of $750 in pay raises versus the union’s demand of about $90 per week.
