The Rev. Don Powell, producer of The New Day telecasts airing on Eastern stations, will appear at Grange Hall Tuesday. Powell leads Missions Thru Faith Inc and has produced Eternal Word telecasts seen nationally. He is a young singing preacher from Indiana Pa who has traveled in 44 countries preaching and singing to large audiences.

VW recalls 70,000 1971 models for wiring defects
Volkswagen of America says 70,000 1971 VW cars are being recalled to inspect steering column locks ignition switches and wiring harnesses for possible defects. The recall is not safety related. the issue could prevent the car from starting. About 128,000 Volkswagens have been sold since September. Pigs rise in Pennsylvania herd to 674000 on December 1.

MEADVILLE The Crawford County commissioners tentatively adopted a 1971 budget of 3 279 345 with expenditures up from 1970 and millage cut from 14 to 13. The budget shows a 223 873 end cash balance and a 367 991 carryover. Reassessment lowers real estate tax receipts to 1 190 275 at 13 mills, still meeting county needs.

Fourth New Year’s Swim Fatality in Connellsville
In Connellsville Pennsylvania David Fabian 22 swam the Youghiogheny River on New Year’s Day as a local ritual. He disappeared about 10 minutes after entering the water and his body was recovered about three hours later 20 feet from the east bank. The river was 20 feet deep and 150 feet wide at the crossing. Also Seoul officials announced a 1971 budget of 1.65 billion dollars reflecting a 17 percent rise from 1970.
