Democrats Cut Expenses in 1935 Pa Legislature
Harrisburg, Jan 2 The Democratic led drive to trim costs in the 1935 Pennsylvania legislature reduced payroll outlays by cutting 84 House employees to one day’s pay for the coming recess and abolishing the resident clerk’s $4,800 post. Senate Democrats failed to secure similar cuts in the Republican upper chamber as a resolution to reduce salaries was tabled. Republican holdovers will receive one day’s pay. Democrats will draw pay when reconvened January 14 before Governor-elect George H. Waris’s inauguration.
