Unemployment Tops Pennsylvania Since World War I
The Pennsylvania Employment Security Bureau reported unemployment in the state at its highest level since shortly after World War I. About 10 percent of the eligible workforce, roughly 464,000 people, were unemployed as of mid February. Construction slowdowns and weather affected hiring, with private building permits rising 18 percent from December to January, while Governor Leader said the state would not rely on public works alone to curb joblessness.
