Stolen Union City Auto Found Parked On Route 6

A reported stolen car from Union City was found abandoned on Route 6 yesterday afternoon near Cory Substation. Purse Missing in Downtown Store Report

Mrs Lloyd Curry of Bear Lake reports to city police that she misplaced a purse in a downtown store while shopping. The purse belonged to Nina Chapman of Bear Lake RD 1. Curry left the purse briefly and returned to find $48 missing from it. store manager located the purse later but the money was gone.

Bus Crash Kills Several Children Near Prestonsburg

State Police say a Floyd County school bus carrying about 40 youngsters collided with a truck and plunged into the Levisa Fork river southwest of Prestonsburg Kentucky. More than 20 children and the driver may have died while ten escaped through a rear door before the bus sank in about 30 feet of water. Principal James Bolen identified the driver as John Alex Derassett a 28 year old with the county system for over five years. The students came from rural homes over a 15 mile area in the coal mining community. Rescue teams dragged the river but could not locate the bus.

AEC Approves 108 Million Atomic Plant Plan

Area Cars Crash Near Union City After Pass Attempt

A two-vehicle crash on Route 8 one mile south of Union City at about 4:20 pm yesterday left Alan Burchfield 20 of Franklin and George Lewis of Meadville with minor injuries. State Police said Burchfield tried to pass a truck traveling north and collided with Lewis driving south. Damage was $125 to Burchfield’s car and $200 to Lewis’s car.

Lineman Electrocuted by Hot Wire at Fort Lauderdale Hotel

George Darkes, 33, an electrical contractor lineworker, was killed when a 13 200 volt wire in a light pole touched a hammer in his hip pocket at the Lauderdale Beach Hotel area. Police and emergency crews reported he died on arrival at hospital after attempts to revive him failed.
