Secret Service and Palm Springs police say there was no indication of a plotted attack and a formal arraignment is expected on vagrancy charges.
Dr. Jonas Salk started large scale polio inoculations at two Pittsburgh elementary schools as about 250 children received first second and third grade shots. By June 19 the program aims to vaccinate around 6 000 children and ongoing tests will measure immunity and dosage needs. Blood tests will track antibody development and helpers monitor reactions amid nationwide trials.
Sharon Pa. two autos collided at an intersection killing Mrs. Frank Boyd 66 of Sharpsville and critically injuring her 59 year old husband. Boyd in poor condition at Sharon General Hospital with chest and possible internal injuries. Occupants of the other car Edward Bager 17 and John Urban 18 of RD 2 Sharon were treated and released.
Earth tremors in Wilkes-Barre area damaged hundreds of homes and cracked structures. No injuries reported as residents fled, with underground mine activity blamed by officials while coal company officials dispute mining as the cause. similar quakes struck Allentown nearby.

In Kittanning Pennsylvania three youths died and two were injured when a vehicle driven by Richard Reichard 16 of Mayport struck a car, veered off and rolled over three times on Route 830 near Dayton. Victims James Schrecengost 19 Rutal Valley and Robert Brown 18 Kittanning died on arrival. Duane Troup 31 Dayton died later at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. Rodney Brown 19 Dayton and Jack Easley treated for head injuries. Reichard and two passengers Wilber McClelland New Bethlehem and Blair Kuhn Bricksburg were uninjured. State Police and Coroner C M Woodward are investigating.
Gall Davis of Corry, 20, known as the pony burglar, was paroled after serving less than three months of an 11 to 2 month sentence for burglary and larceny. He admitted stealing numerous pairs of women's undergarments from Corry area shops and homes and other burglaries. Davis was transferred to Warren for further arraignment on burglary charges after being found wearing a stolen topcoat.
Indochina combat reports say Communist forces retreating north of Luang Prabang under continuous bombardment from French patrol planes and U.S. built B25s and Bearcats.
