Khe Sanh siege tightens as Marines face looming battle
North Vietnamese forces have ringed Khe Sanh, leaving 5 000 Marines and 500 Vietnamese defenders cut off. Fog, bunkers, and trenches bring dense danger within 300 yards of the perimeter as reinforcements are difficult and casualties mount. The siege may drag on weeks with tanks reportedly at Khe Sanh village and Lang Vei fallen. Marine officers remain hopeful but wary of an eventual breakout.

The academy disclosed 13 midshipmen involved in marijuana violations, including 11 juniors, one sophomore and one freshman.
