More hopefuls entered races as petitions circulated. Walker B. Sennett, attorney, sought State Senate in Erie, joining W. W. Doc Waterhouse of Corry and John Held of Evie in GOP primary. Bus collision injures 15 as truck hits route home

In Dixon Ohio a bus carrying 30 grade school children home from a basketball game was rear ended by a semitrailer. Fifteen children were injured. In Cincinnati an airplane crashed within 50 feet of a Catholic school near Madeira in eastern Hamilton County and caught fire.

YMCA campaign reports 122 members signed to date

YMCA enrollment drive reports 122 members signed so far, two days into the effort. R Elwin Fuller chairs the breakfast session with Rev Paul Bauer giving the invocation. New and renewal members total 122, 34 percent of the drive’s goal, with 17 new and 15 renewals reported this morning.

Body Of Warren Hospital Patient Found In Creek

The body of a 2-year-old patient at Warren State Hospital in North Warren was found in Conewango Creek near the hospital about 4 30 p m yesterday. Donald Alan Jones, son of Mr and Mrs A Wayne Jones of Franklin, had been missing since February 9 when he slipped away from a hospital movie. Two boys Kim Reynolds 12 and Chip Clemens 13 found the body while checking traps along the creek. Coroner Ed Lowrey said he is investigating and expects a death certificate this morning.

San Quentin California AP reports Daryl Chessman received an eighth stay of execution just before his scheduled gas chamber date. Gov. Edmund G Brown granted a 60 day reprieve after both state supreme court and the governor declined to intervene. Chessman’s attorney said the condemned kidnapper remarked to his lawyer that he felt like a dead man.

Arrest Corry Man In 1958 Area Holdup

Corry resident Kolstee of Spring Street was arrested by state police for involvement in the July 6, 1958 Waterford Drive-in holdup. He pled guilty at arraignment before Justice of the Peace Floyd Marsh and released on a $500 bond. Accomplice Eugene Pier is on a 23 month probation, with a $260 fine and court costs already paid.

SAN FRANCISCO AP Daryl Chessman condemned to death for a sex crime received a 60 day stay from execution less than ten hours before his scheduled death. Gov Edmund G Brown ordered the reprieve after a State Department telegram warned that executing Chessman could trigger hostile demonstrations in Uruguay and Brazil during President Eisenhower’s South American visit. Brown said he would ask the state legislature to consider abolition of the death penalty. The stay followed long public appeals and Chessman’s notoriety as a symbol in the capital punishment debate. He was moved from the gas chamber waiting room back to the death row cell after the stay was issued. No one would be allowed to visit him for at least a week. The telegram cited concerns from Uruguay’s government about possible demonstrations.
