City Engineer David Johnson directed to proceed with sanitary sewers on Random and Russell roads and West End streets, plus paving and curbing on Mound Congress Frederick Marion, and Mead Avenue widening. Worst Yet To Come Corry Spared Bad Floods

A mid winter thaw and heavy rains caused flooding in northwestern Pennsylvania but Corry largely escaped high water. Weather Bureau forecasts warn the worst may follow with showers and thunderstorms and high precipitation chances. City reports note high water on West Main near Gates and Sciota near the sewage plant. State police report water across a Lovell’s Stall area road. Crawford County saw flooded basements and blocked roads as French Creek neared flood stage. Route 322 south toward Cochranstown saw mudslides and a three hour road closure before clearance.

City Council Receives Arbitration Bills in Hampered Pact

City Council reviewed two arbitration related bills from last night. payment to impartial arbitrator Dean Jr of Pittsburgh totals 760.46 and to Erie’s Raymond G Weber 108. The city attorney’s bill is not yet received, while John Spencer remains a retained officer with undetermined pay. The one year pact will extend into negotiations in about six months. Police settled for a house living clause trade for a small financial gain.

Emergency Radio Net Gets Citys Final Nod

City Council approved a new emergency radio hookup linking Corry Memorial Hospital with ambulances and several agencies. The hospital will fund equipment with no city cost. police will be listed on the hospital license. Dispatching will occur from the police station on the fire frequency to coordinate care and alert doctors as needed.

Postal Service Slips Despite Improvements Since 1969

GAO says mail service not as good as under the old Post Office Department despite some gains. Missent mail runs about 7 percent, and delays grow as more sorting machines are added. Average first class delivery time now 1.43 days vs 1.5 days in 1969, with broad dissatisfaction among Congress members.

Hearst Returns to Court as Jury Tours Kidnap Hideouts

Patricia Hearst, in court for the 1974 bank robbery trial, plans to testify today as jurors and Hearst visited the Symbionese Liberation Army hideouts. Defense says she may remain on the witness stand all day. The jury toured the closet where she was held and the suburban home and inner city apartment related to her abduction in 40 weeks captivity.
