Dayton February 15. Captain Thomas H. Miller post surgeon at Wilbur Wright field was killed when the training plane he flew with Captain Ewart Laughlin went into a tail spin at thirty feet. Captain Laughlin the pilot suffered minor injuries.

Washington February 15 Senator Bruce Democrat of Idaho attacked the Senate’s investigative zeal opposing the Walsh resolution to probe the so called power combine. He said the Senate is drunk with its powers and urged investigations of itself and everything else under the sun. He noted Walsh once opposed probing prohibition and urged reciprocal scrutiny.
Harrisburg dated note reports W. J. Albert of Washington seeking a full pardon for Pete Christ an on the grounds of mistaken identity in the 19th century murder of Policeman James Cuela in New Castle. Albert produced affidavits claiming Christ an was not part of the murder group that led to two subsequent killings. Christ an was arrested three years after the crime in Cincinnati.
Representatives of peace groups and church organizations testified before the House Naval Affairs Committee. They cited distrust of the United States by other nations, especially Britain and Japan, warning the program could lead to war. Clergy and scholars criticized the administration’s naval buildup and warned against inflaming anti Japanese sentiment.
In Harrisburg on February 1 the pardon board was asked to grant Steve Faytol of Allegheny County a pardon for second degree murder. Faytol, sentenced in February 1915 to 16 years, killed during a pool room incident in Braddock. His brother Andy Faytol had been convicted of voluntary manslaughter for a separate incident.
