In Los Angeles February 44 United Press reports William Hickman was sentenced to be hanged on Friday April 27 for the murder of 12 year old Marian Parker. Judge Trabucchio overruled defense motions for a new trial and also sentenced Hickman to prison for kidnapping Parker. Hickman listened with a pale face as the sentence was read and later posed for a courtroom photo with a smile.

A $29,000 wrongful death suit was filed in Erie court by Heriot Bemis of Spring Creek against the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. for the death of her son George Bemis, a driver for Mead and Brown Filling Station, who was killed at the Summer Street crossing in Corry on November 1. The complaint accuses the railroad of negligence and obstructed tracks, claiming the train sounded no sufficient warning. Craig and Blass are to represent the plaintiff.
