Corry teacher denies skipping channels in gym policy query
Corry Area High School PE teacher Robert Benson told The Journal he exhausted local channels before contacting the state Department of Education about whether state law allows excusing varsity athletes from regular gym. DOE said the law requiring compulsory PE stands and varsity sports do not factor in. Benson cited December events: a December 4 notice approving Mark Bloom’s gym exemption, and a December 18 notice for all varsity basketball players to be excused. Brant claimed the basketball team is down and sought to “make it legal,” Benson said, and Benson then consulted the Corry Area Education Association before pursuing local channels.
