Vestris Sinks After Hull Overload Off Virginia Capes
Crewman captures haunting scenes aboard the SS Vestris as heavy cargo shift and coal dust clog pumps lead to rapid flooding and sinking off the Virginia Capes. Captain Carey remains aboard. 110 perish, none of the children saved, a bride among the lost, while crewman Fred Hansen films the disaster. DISCOVERED IN 1844 Dr Horace Wells, a dentist from Hartford, Conn, first noted nitrous oxide anesthesia in 1844.
