Daniel G. Grandin, 45, vice president and treasurer of a Jamestown mill, was found crushed in a conveyor on the sixth floor after a fire damaged the grain elevator. Police say he slipped on ice from firefighting water, sleeve caught in belt, body recovered by a worker who heard a thumping noise before the motor was shut off. Grandin’s brother, also company president, was at the ground floor office. The fire started in dust during Tuesday night’s blaze and was confined to dust stops.
Corry Area Joint School Committee will elect an assistant Junior Senior High School principal Monday after interviewing five applicants. The post was created after Howard J. Sheen announced retirement, with Harold J. Wolfe named to supervise the merged junior and senior wings.

Andre Sostatic, 33, awoke to his one year old crying and found his house full of fumes. His wife Mikle, 32, and two other sons Richard, 9, and Gary, 2, were unconscious. An ambulance rushed the family to McKeesport Hospital where the father and three sons were detained for observation.
