Titusville Case Challenges Union and Company Jurisdiction
The Crawford County Court in Meadville, citing lack of equity court jurisdiction, sustains a demurrer in a dispute between Titusville Forge Works employees and Struthers Wells Corp. The plaintiffs seek reinstatement, back wages, and damages after a 1968 joint agreement that allegedly stripped seniority. They argue the agreement was invalid, while Judge Mook rules the court cannot rewrite the 1957 contract or bar the union from future actions. The judge also notes the plaintiffs have not exhausted remedies at law through the union or NLRB.
