Senator Hugh Scott says defected East German police told Western allies their orders were to withdraw and fire only on government buildings if the Berlin Wall were smashed. He cites interviews with East German police and soldiers who reportedly had bullets in only one of four guns.
New York faces a possible New Year strike over transit as 9,000 electricians threaten a January walkout amid contract disputes. Transport Workers Union officials convened a strike meeting, with Michael J. Quill warning TA and seven private bus lines to authorize action if negotiations fail. Key issues include shorter weeks: four days for transit workers and a four hour day for electricians.
Cambodia's Prince Norodom Sihanouk opened Congress with a fiery anti Thai and South Vietnamese speech. Corry State Police at the Gerry substation move two burglary suspects from Butler to Crawford County jail after their Butler arrest on September 26. Daniel Cox, 19, Spartansburg, and James Kopf, 21, Diamond, allegedly stole the gun used in a shooting and several other firearms from Rexford Still Sporting Goods in Spartansburg on September 5. Detainers had been filed to transfer them for arraignment before Justice of the Peace Walter Dombe in Centerville.
Slugs struck Nick Foricke, manager of the Kroger store at Northern Light Shopping Center in Ambridge area Economy borough yesterday. Police said two men attacked him and left without taking negotiable checks he had been taking to a bank. Foricke was treated for head injuries at Sewickley Hospital.
AP reports Belgium and Congo restoring diplomatic ties after ten years as Premier Cyrille Adoula seeks unity with Katanga leader Moise Tshombe. Relations soured 17 months earlier amid anticolonial riots and Belgian interests shifting toward a centralized Congo under a new government in Leopardville.
U S Ambassador Jones met with President Sukarno in Jakarta to press for avoiding a Dutch Indonesian war over West New Guinea. Sukarno said negotiations only on terms granting Indonesian sovereignty as The Hague discussed UN involvement and self determination for Papuan people.

A Corry area woman injured in an auto crash on December 13 near Clymer died yesterday at Corry Memorial Hospital. The death was attributed to the accident. Mrs. Henry Minnie Meyerink suffered contusions and a fractured hip and arm when the car she rode in collided with a truck driven by Paul Mather of 26 South Center Street. The car was being driven by Mrs. Verjean Roy Meyerink of Hartford New York, which skidded out of control into the truck’s path. Mather was unhurt, and truck damage was about 700 dollars.

Reinhold Rudenberg, a noted electrical engineer who invented the electron microscope, died yesterday. He retired from Harvard University in 1962 as Gordon McKay professor of electrical engineering and had been teaching at several universities.
Soviet government seeks U S approval to appoint Dobrynin as ambassador in Washington succeeding Mikhail Menshikov who has held the post since February 1968. Appointments are secret until the receiving country approves and final word rests with the White House. The decision may come soon, possibly before June 1.
Attorneys for the NAACP opened a hearing on a State court injunction and demanded that Negroes be addressed as Mr and Mrs in court records and that the courtroom be integrated. Circuit Judge Walter B. Jones weighed whether to make the five year old injunction permanent and declined to order the courtroom degraded or to instruct the court reporter on honorifics.
