Mrs. Charles R. Clark, mother of four, says her longtime lover Floyd Hargrove shot her husband as he helped prepare Christmas dinner. Hargrove, a truck driver and frequent visitor, was held without bond after an extensive police interview and is not charged. Mrs. Clark says no divorce or separation existed.
Somber wet weather spread over much of the United States with snow and freezing drizzle. A car overturned on Stateline road near New Bedford last night, killing two passengers. Wil lath McFall, 17, of Hubbard, Olio, and another youth died. The driver John W. Shur er-Jn, 18, of Hubbard was not hospitalized.
A fire gutted the second floor of J. Neckers home near Clymer yesterday afternoon. Fire officials said the cause was not yet determined. About 40 firefighters from Clymer Findley Lake and Panama fought the blaze, evacuating and protecting first floor furnishings as water and smoke damage spread upstairs. The flames were under control by 3:30 p.m. with inspectors to assess loss and insurance status.
Andre Tinko of Pittsburgh walked into the Corry police station to swear out a warrant for Donald McKuhn of Corry, claiming McKuhn hit him at Bill's Place on West Main Street. Tinko, who appeared with a lip cut, was placed in custody as a parole violator. police planned to contact Ohio officials.
In Lottsville two brothers, Ralph and Ernest Dyke, suffered about 40000 in losses when their 100 by 50 foot storage barn burned at mid day on the Lottaville Sug ar Grove road in Freehold Township. Fire crews from Sugar Grove and Bear Lake battled the blaze amid freezing temperatures and used tank trucks and water from Brokenstra Creek. Losses included farm machinery valued at 15000 to 20000, with several tractors, two combines, three balers, and wagons lost. two tractors and a newly purchased key sanctioner were saved.

Dr. W J Goodpaster a 46 year old optometrist and horseman is charged with murder in the Christmas morning slaying of Margaret Strunk and wounding of Bernard Debraski near Marion Williamson County. He is brother of Gen Andrew J Goodpaster staff secretary to President Eisenhower.
President Eisenhower drove to Gettysburg to spend a brief Christmas with his grandchildren. He departed at 9 15 a m and expected to return to the White House for lunch. White House aides noted ice coated highways forced the change in plans and that he would likely resume travel to Georgia in August.
A year-old boy drowned Thursday after falling through thin ice on a pond near Tdaville while skating. A companion and firemen searched for three hours on Christmas Eve before locating the body. Mrs. Ralph Tyson, owner of the pond, said the boys had called to ask about skating there and were warned the ice was too thin.
Erie reports the county’s new assessment about 40 million dollars below expectations with Erie City at 150 million and Millcreek Township up 21 million. County plans to adjust the assessment percentage next year to ensure sufficient revenue as total valuation nears 260 million versus a hoped 300 million.
Police held Ruby Barker 34 as a material witness after Duffin was shot on Christmas Day near the Silver Spur Casino two blocks from the Capitol. Officials discounted a love triangle motive as they pursued leads with Barker and her husband questioned.
In Tuscaloosa Alabama fire crews monitor 28 burning freight cars after a Christmas night derailment at Coaling 15 miles east. Five cars carried manufactured gas and at least one exploded. Dunhoff, a 50 year old man hospitalized after a hit and run, discusses the crash that killed his blind wife Twan as a panel truck fled from Lawrenceville station. The couple, about 50 and crippled by polio, were struck Thursday night. the vehicle sped away leaving them injured.
AP reports scientist Frank Drake of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory says radio signals from Venus show a surface temp about 585 degrees Fahrenheit, too hot for life or water. He notes a Jupiter radiation halo would threaten spacemen far more than Earth's Van Allen belts and that Venus’ surface is likely rock and desert beneath thick clouds.
In Easlon Maryland a Santa figure at a Quaker meeting house lost his trousers while handing out gifts. He stood bearded in a red coat and shorts as amused adults watched. He later explained he had shed 20 pounds since August and calmly pulled up his trousers.
George Kresovich, 65, of Carmichaels, Pa., was fatally struck by a car while walking to midnight mass in Greene County. Police said the driver did not stop. The incident occurred Thursday night and is under investigation.
