Captain Goes Down With Ship Off Tobermory
ASSOC O Fre% TOBERMORY Scotland Ivan Dahn a 7-year-old Swedish ship captain went down with his damaged freighter yesterday after his crew of 20 took to lifeboats. The 1,447-ton Hispania was en route from Liverpool to Sweden with steel when it struck a reef half a mile off Scotland's west coast in a storm. The ship backed off the reef and listed 25 degrees to port before the crew abandoned in two attempts. They circled the vessel pleading for the captain to join them, but he remained on the bridge. The skipper could have escaped but stayed, a witness said. A bulkhead broke and the ship went down like a stone.
