Incoming lawmakers show support for higher personal exemptions and possible reductions in individual income taxes. The Associated Press poll surveyed 128 members, revealing a leaning toward tax relief but with many still undecided on corporate and excise taxes.
Richard Smith Jr of 928 Essex faced Alderman Cobbett on drunken and disorderly charges. Found guilty on both counts with a $75 fine and costs on each, plus an indefinite drinking shut off order signed by Smith and his mother. Police report describe him swinging at officers, requiring restraint. he sustained facial injuries and received hospital treatment. This marks his fourth such charge at the Corry Police Department.
East Branch man Thomas W. Varney was held on 300 bond on a charge of stealing a dog valued at 100. Alderman George Gordon ordered Varney held for court after Parkhurst of East Smith Street reported his registered Beagle wandered from a Varney barn and was taken. Varney admits putting a rope on the dog and bringing it home. Parkhurst had advertised. Varney also posted notices but no reply. The case rests on the 1921 statute declaring a dog personal property subject to licensing. Varney was represented by William Peiffer. Parkhurst had no counsel.
In Paris the National Assembly opened debate on ratification of the Paris treaties on German rearmament. Gen Pleve Aumerany led 40 speakers, opposing the pacts as leaving room for a rearmed West Germany to split from the Western defense bloc. Mendes France urged Assembly action before Christmas to enroll 500,000 West Germans as informed soldiers in the North Atlantic Alliance.
Miss Helen Ho movies told police she recognized one of the men as the intruder who robbed the club in June. The group escaped with about $4000 after hitting Moose Lodge No 46 in Pittsburgh. The same suspect faced the security guard yesterday with two others and made off with a $2,400 payroll.
In Vienna the Western powers rejected Moscow's claim that U S troops in Austria's French occupation zone violated four power accords. U S High Commissioner Thompson said only a small communications unit remained to link Trieste ports with U S forces in Austria. French High Commissioner Chauvel joined in condemning the Soviet move as propaganda rather than a solution.
Corry public schools and St Edward's Parochial School dismiss today for Christmas vacation with a return set for January third and Easter break to follow. The schedule shifts extend the term to late June with a shortened Easter and reallocated break time. A separate fire at the Chanticler night club in Uniontown caused £40,000 in damage with investigation ongoing.

Philip Young, 53, longtime local resident, died after a lingering illness in Corry Memorial Hospital. He played basketball for Cory iovstone and was among its early prominent members. Survived by wife Georgia A. Young, daughter Mrs Taylor Woeron, granddaughter Diana Warrest, brother Walton M. Young, and several other relatives. The body lies at Bracken Funeral Home with services Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
Cleveland court room brims with confusion as the jury nears its fifth day of deliberations in Dr Samuel Sheppard's murder trial. Erie man Frank Fuarel was killed when his vehicle collided with a police cruiser responding to a false burglary alarm at 3 bank. Officer Raymond Mastrey of Erie was in reportedly fair condition. Bystander injuries to Russell Bragier and Robert Sheridan were minor.
Public Utility Commission approves Duquesne Light Co plan to sell 12 percent million dollars of preferred and common stock to finance its 1955 construction program. Duquesne says it will issue 8 million dollars of preferred stock and 4 million dollars of common stock to raise funds.
