State May Give Up Millions By Failing To Match Funds
A TRIP study warns Pennsylvania could forfeit 96 million in highway grants if the state does not provide 19 million in matching funds within 20 months. The loss would end 77 million in federal aid and create about 4,200 jobs with a 351 million annual payroll. The report cites bond repayments and a 826 million highway revenue base for 1978, urging a pay‑as‑you‑go approach and higher motor fuel tax revenues to reduce road and bridge backlogs.
