Snow and cold persisted as Corry area residents faced hazardous roads. A hit and run crash on Mill road abandoned a snowbound car owned by Rudy Silvis. Her grandson Winston Churchill announced the death saying she was lunching with her secretary when she was stricken. she had been in frail health and had retreated after her husband's death in 1965.
The Associated Press reports record low temps across the East with 13 below in Burlington and 15 below in Portland. Old Forge NY hit 26 below, Glens Falls 23 below, and Lebanon NH 21 below. A 12 hour barn fire in Northumberland tied to freezing weather strained 14 companies as animals stayed safe. A warming trend begins across the Midwest and Plains with clouds and mixed precipitation in the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and Southeast.
McInnes Steel Co plans a new 2,000 pound pressure press at the East Main plant. The installation aims to handle heavier pieces and will create more jobs, per vice president Stephen Mahoney. No trial date yet, but the press should be ready by midweek.
