Pilot Survives Cessna 150 Crash Near Lawrence Airport

Warren Ohio resident David Crawford, 28, escaped a crash after his Cessna 150 ran low on fuel near Lawrence Airport. He attempted an emergency landing but stalled the engine, the plane overturning in a lightly wooded area east of Tonnard. Firemen extracted him and rushed him to Corry Memorial Hospital where he remains in satisfactory condition with minor head injuries.

Plane Crashes Here It Was A Bad Day To Fly

Corry Lawrence Airport was closed after a winter storm left four foot drifts. David Crawford, 28, from Warren, Ohio, attempted a landing in his Cessna 150 but crashed east of the Tonnard plant after aborting a touchdown. Crawford escaped with head and back injuries. he was treated and taken to hospital. A second crash near Johnstown killed Carl Basile and Charles Condon of New York. pilot John O'Brien of Ashville was in critical condition.

Corry District Plans Adult Classes and School Psychologist Hire

The Corry Area School District board approved an adult education program with seven courses for the upcoming semester, in collaboration with Erie Tech School and IU5, with costs ranging from 25 to 30 dollars per course. The district also unanimously approved hiring Mark Miele as school psychologist at 14000 dollars, citing growing needs and due process concerns. The Spring Creek School site will be transferred to township supervisors for one dollar, to be used for community activities including playground functions and a summer theatre group, following a Columbus pattern of community use.

Dorm Fire Kills Seven at Providence College

A dorm fire on the fourth floor of Aquinas Hall at Providence College, likely started by a hair dryer, killed seven women and injured at least 15. Two died jumping from windows as firefighters delayed by seconds arrive. the blaze confined to the top floor, with hundreds evacuated into frigid air during the 2:56 a.m. alarm.

Warm spell eases rivers as Midwest stays wet

Principal In Nuisance Case Dies In Erie County

Corry resident Robert Keppel, a principal in a long running nuisance abatement case, died just after leaving the Erie County Courthouse. Judge Lindley McClellan adjourned after half a witness testimony and gave 180 days for city and Keppel to resolve the dispute over a house on East Main Street. A new trial or further action remains undecided.
