Mayville Jury Convicts Man of Manslaughter
A Mayville jury of seven men and five women found George Seminuk guilty of first degree manslaughter in the March death of Mrs. Sally Kolpien of Jamestown. The court read the verdict at 10:45 p.m. after nearly five hours of deliberation. Seminuk displayed no emotion but wept as he was led away in handcuffs. He had been charged with second degree murder, but the jury found extreme emotional distress justified the lesser charge. The minimum sentence is five years and the maximum 25. The Kolpien family and local officials reacted with mixed feelings, while the district attorney called the result a victory and the defense offered no comment.
