Many Christmas Greens Plentiful in Pennsylvania
WARRISBURG Pa Decem ber 1 Deputy Secretary John W Keller of the Department of Forests and Waters said Pennsylvania has an abundant supply of shrubs and vines for Christmas decorative purposes with no reason every home should lack natural red and green. Dwellers in rural areas seek income from collecting leaves vines branches and berries as early as October. Ground pine and laurel leaves are used for chains and festooning while mountain ash winterberry and hawthorn supply colored berries. Holly is scarce and confined to southern mountains. Keller urged gatherers to conserve rare plants and obtain landowner permission as removal without consent can incur a 25 fine.
