United Press reports in Moscow claim 66 people including a woman were executed after secret military trials for terrorism. The actions followed the assassination of Sergei Kirov by Leonid Micoliev. Micoliev was wounded and captured as guards killed others. The government seeks to deter further reprisals and to question the assassin.
A $1,000,000 blaze swept a three block area along Portland's waterfront. The fire likely started from spontaneous combustion in the New England Grain Company building and spread quickly through lumber yards and factories as high winds fueled flames reaching fifty feet into the air. Nearby workers were said to be affected as the inferno raged through the industrial district.
United Press reports Gulf Refining Co. was indicted by a federal grand jury on 72 counts alleging violations of the NFA petrols code. Indictments accuse the maintenance department employees of being forced to work longer hours than permitted during a strike at the Gulf plant in July.

FRANKLIN Pa December 6 A 16 year old Maple Dale boy Floyd Rogers was killed while seeking shelter from freezing winds near Pec an today in Venango county's second hunting fatality of the season. His 16 year old companion James Johnson entered a ramshackle barn on an unoccupied farm for shelter when a gun accidentally discharged a “hair ball” firing through Rogers head. Coroner J Trwin Zerbe said no inquest would be held.
Washington signals London talks will end if Japan renounces the Washington treaty. The United States will withdraw when notice is served unless Japan offers a definite replacement plan. Amb Davis says the US will not accept Japan’s demand for parity and may resume talks only with a constructive alternative.
In Bridgeport Connecticut on December 6 authorities reported two registered mail pouches opened en route from Hartford containing payroll checks. The haul included 307 checks valued at 4,500 dollars and a total of 16,959.75 dollars in relief checks.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Carr Hospital plans a four bed children’s ward as a next year project. The group, led by Mrs. P. G. Wood, met in the nurses’ home and outlined fundraising and furnishings plans. They recently funded Moor covering for the delivery room and organized a donation day collecting over three hundred cans.
Paris reports Col Alfred Dreyfus once central to a famed espionage case is critically ill on the Brittany coast. The former army officer once condemned to life on Devil’s Island later earned acquittals and reinstatement, serving in World War I and gaining the Legion of Honor.
