Industry leaders publish a recovery plan proposing unemployment insurance measures as part of postwar economic stabilization. The document outlines funding, eligibility, and benefit structures to buffer workers from market downturns and to support industry recovery.
Three men were arrested today in connection with the $3700 Pulitidad National Bank robbery at Fairfield. John Kraly alias John King was caught in New York with about $1100. Anthony Rayle was seized in Steelton with about $600. John Fedoria alias John Gray was captured in Cairbrook with $524. Rayle confessed driving the car used in the escape. the vehicle was stolen from Stanley E. Wagner of Pottsville and found in a Hagerstown garage.
The Public Service Commission in Harrisburg launches formal proceedings against Pittsburgh based Duquesne Light Co after its refusal to reduce rates. Commission cites unjust and unreasonable charges and orders an answer by December 20 with a hearing to set rates. Duquesne cites higher expenses and taxes in 1984 totaling about $2.071 million as justification.
A fire at Warner Brothers First National Studios in Burbank engulfed about 80 acres of outdoor sets and equipment, killing Albert M. Rounder, 65, and injuring seven. Firefighters halted the blaze after more than two hours, with damage unofficially estimated between 400000 and 500000 dollars. Flames were visible 18 miles away in Pasadena.
Floyd Ottaway a 37 year old at Grave street had a narrow escape when a cave-in during the West Frederick street sewer construction west of West Wayne street trapped him briefly. He was removed to Corry hospital for observation and is believed to have escaped serious injuries.

New York December 5 The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers pushes compulsory unemployment insurance for public and private workers as part of a national recovery program. The proposal would be funded by employers and insured employees with a protected fund, administered by a small non political body, and would cover all workers. Industry leaders expect Congress of American Industry to endorse the plan, backing steel and lumber interests.
Chicago dispatch reports DOJ agents held the 21 year old widow Mrs Lester Gillis for five days and pressed her about Nelsons gunman in the Barrington fight last week. Officials refused to confirm or deny arrests of John Hamilton or Alvin Karpis and gave no comment on the widow’s disclosures.
Tulsa December 5 The state’s case against Phillip Kennamer charged with 61st degree murder was complete today investigators seek information that could implicate several youths in lesser charges. Kennamer’s father Judge Kennamer is known for stern crime dealings and Kennamer confessed We Shot John Gornell on Thanksgiving night claiming self defense.
Corry hunters share in a heavy deer kill with hundreds of bucks brought down over the past two days in Pennsylvania. Snowy weather aided conditions as sightings were reported in Lindsey Hollow near the city and at Jackson Hill. Notable catches include Carl M. Guenther with an 185 pound eight point buck on display at Stockton's market, Donald Patterson and Richard Hughes with a T pointer and a 4 point respectively, Christie Hudson a fine pointer, LeRoy Dickinson a seven pointer near Sheffield, Bernard Shaw a point near Baiborum, Will Dyckes a 12 point near Sprite, Arthur Burlingame a six point, Kenneth Watrous an S point, A. L. Watrous six point, and Cliff Watrous a 12 pointer on Bull Hill near Sheffield.
Philadelphia December 5 Governor-elect George H Carle named Robert Livingstone Johnson of New York executive director of the state emergency relief board, to take office next month. Johnson succeeds Eric H Biddle, whose clash with Carle over a special legislative session to fund relief triggered his ouster. The entire relief board is expected to be shaken up with many employees dropped. Johnson, a former Time and Fortune editor, lives in South Norwalk Connecticut and is an Independent Republican supportive of the president.
Corry Public Library usage rose in November per librarian Miss Marjorie Sullivan. Total circulation increased from 3152 in October to 3671 in November, with adult fiction 2444, junior fiction 884, non fiction 949, periodicals and references 263. Trustees approved a 2.45 bill for rebinding, 201 volumes discarded, 1402 repaired, 95 volumes repaired at the bindery for 62.45, Merion Smith named library board vice president, holiday recess set for December 24 and 25.
Hauptmann guilt amid Lindbergh kidnapping case reinforced by Bronx discovery cited by Prosecutor Anthony M Hauck Jr. He said new material from state and Metropolitan detectives will establish guilt beyond doubt, while keeping the specifics undisclosed. Mrs Ressink travels to Erie for a business day.

Two men were arrested after an accident near the State Fish Hatchery west of Corry last night. Arraigned before Mayor Glen Miller on drunkenness and disorderly conduct, they paid fines and costs. Names given as Thomas W. Pukkila of Montclair New Jersey and John Lang of Cleveland. Pukkila owned the Ford truck. Lang was a hitchhiker. Vehicle left the highway, Lang sustained facial cuts, Pukkila bruised and shaken. Reported Pukkila had been soliciting aid in Corry while driving Route 8. Also said they carried a quantity of wet goods.
Geneva December 5. Pierre Eval proposed an international police force for the Saar to the League of Nations council. Britain and Italy pledged troops if created. London December 5. Viscount Buck, 74, former lord chancellor and legal authority, died after two weeks of illness.
Lord Riddell, owner of the News of the World, died after an operation seven weeks ago. The paper, famed for crime and scandal coverage, boasted a circulation near 3,000,000 and was widely read across classes.
Elmen Minnis, 80, of Sheakleyville, died after a heart attack in the press room of the Greenville Record Algull. Minnis was employed in the circulation department and collapsed yesterday. He is survived by relatives in the area.
